Activities
and Results
Year
1
The FGRBI
model was developed and implemented with 6 children with Autism
Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families. Participants were recruited
in collaboration with the local community Part C program and other
related projects (FIRSTWORDS Project, Early Social Interaction Project).
The focus was to gather information on the effectiveness of the
FG-RBI model in addressing the specific social-communication goals
for children with autism by enhancing their caregiver’s ability
to use individualized teaching strategies within their daily routines
and activities. Data collection and analyses are ongoing.
Year
2
The FGRBI
model has expanded to include families of children with Down syndrome.
The focus is to assess the applicability of the FGRBI model in addressing
child goals that may vary across domains (cognitive, self-help,
communication) by enhancing their caregiver’s ability to use
teaching strategies across diverse routines and activities. Participant
recruitment and data collection are on-going.
Year
3
Data collection continued on parent child dyads in home based programs with a special focus on children with significant communication delays, families with multiple risk factors and children adopted internationally. Review of opportunities provided by caregivers within various routines was conducted.
Year
4
Focus for year 4 included investigation of the applicability of the model to caregivers in early care and education settings. A study was completed within Early Head Start and another initiated within a transitional living facility for homeless families. Social validity sampling was conducted.
The following presentations
about the FGRBI model were made by FGRBI staff at various international,
national, and state-level conferences.
